Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) instruments are a set of specialized surgical tools used in urology to perform PCNL, a minimally invasive procedure for removing large kidney stones. Key instruments include the Access Needle (such as a Veress needle or a trocar needle) used to puncture the skin and kidney to gain initial access to the renal collecting system. A Guidewire is then introduced through the needle to establish a secure pathway. The Amplatz Sheath is a larger diameter tube that is passed over the guidewire to create a working channel from the skin into the kidney, through which other instruments for stone fragmentation and removal can be introduced.
